Spoil Me Clean

My husband got me THE BEST V-day gift last week: MAID SERVICE. (He really took "Mars and Venus Go Christmas Shopping” to heart!)

Since I’ve been working from home, the house has kind of taken a backseat. I mean, it’s been presentable, but not what I call “clean”.

OH MY GOD – it’s been SO GREAT!!!! We’ve been relishing in the results for the past week now. There is nothing like a spotless house…that someone ELSE has presented to you. This maid in particular is a real gem: she not only cleaned the inside of our fridge, scrubbed every crevice in the bathrooms, dusted the blinds, and changed our sheets: she did our LAUNDRY!

Broom: $9.95

Maid Service: $100

The feeling of opening my chest drawer stacked full of clean pajamas: Priceless

Seriously, you can’t put a price on feeling pampered and carefree…and orderly.

I’ve thought about giving someone else maid service as a present, but then you run the risk of them thinking that you think they need to have someone come in and clean their house.

Not me! I welcome it.

I’m not big into spending money on myself: I can’t bring myself to spend full price on any clothing item, I wait till the very last minute - when the gray in my hair can’t pass for “just a few” - to get my hair done, and used a scotch taped, 6 year old laptop for over a year to avoid spending money on a new one. If you read my last blog, you might understand where I get this “frugality” (as my best friend so delicately puts it) from. (In my defense, I’m NOT "frugal" (cheap) with other people - just myself.)

Anyway, getting back to spoiling myself: we’re asking Nellie, the maid, to come in and wave her magic wand every 2 weeks.

I’d trade spending $200 on a new pair of "7 for All Mankind jeans" (seriously??), or getting my hair done every 3 months like I should (when my roots actually start showing), for 10 hours of freed up time not spent on housework, and a stress free week any day.
