The “Freshman 15” I Gained...After College

You know you have to start worrying about your weight when people are asking if you’re pregnant again…and you’re not! O.K., it was a combination of the style of sweater I had on…and the fact that I had probably been the heaviest I’d been for awhile.

I tried doing the WW thing on my own, counting points, writing them down, e-mailing my friend who was also trying to do the WW thing on her own. We were basically each other’s excuses for cheating. I slipped one day; she let her diet slide the next. I saw she broke down and had a scone at Starbucks, I thought I deserved a Pumpkin muffin at Panera. If anything, I think I gained weight on our diet plan.

Then, it happened: not only did someone ask me if I was pregnant, I was talking about going on a SERIOUS diet and……….NOBODY QUESTIONED me! That was it. I decided that I would join WW in person. It was awkward considering that my weight situation was probably a joke to the other women there. But, if you stop to think about it, it’s that ‘Freshman 15” that’s the most difficult to lose – right?? I mean, it’s much easier to lose the more you have to lose I think.

Since I joined 5 weeks ago, I’ve lost approximately 4 lbs. which was truly impossible to 1st lose and then to keep off. When you’re wearing pajamas 24/7, there’s not a whole lot of motivation to keep the weight off. Especially when you’re wearing oversized pajamas from when you were pregnant, that make you feel thin. The problem is when you have a dinner or party to dress up for, and you’re used to grabbing any old thing out of the closet 1/2 hr. before leaving and looking and feeling great – to panicking and ending up in tears, blaming your husband for the recent trip to Cold Stone’s and for talking you out of (didn’t take much) going to the gym.

I’m happy with the slow loss of lbs. especially since it’s the holidays and I usually would’ve probably gained weight. I actually strategically joined right before to torture myself. And let me tell you, it has been torture.

I have 5 more weeks of the program and am hoping for 10 more lbs. Realistically; I should aim for 6 lbs. But, I will probably only lose another 4 lbs.

Whatever the case is, I’m hoping the after-college “Freshman 15”, will only be the “Freshman 5”.
