The Day After Christmas Blues

It’s over. Weeks and weeks of Christmas present planning, Christmas card addressing (except for the few that will trail in last minute and I will need to reciprocate to last minute), Christmas shopping, Christmas present wrapping, Christmas present sending, Christmas decorating, Christmas dinner planning and prepping, Christmas baking…all leading up to an hour of Christmas present opening mania. My husband played Santa – bringing us presents as we beamed, unapologetically ripping wrapping paper off boxes. I was so blinded by the frenzy; I was shocked when there were only 3 presents left under the tree.

The ripping slowed down delicate unwrapping and then, there were none.

We weren’t even going to give each other presents this year!

I look around at the slew of toys, books, empty boxes, clothes, a 1/2 eaten bag of Lindt chocolate truffles (the best BTW)….and the unlit tree. I check my G-mail, only to find an message from Citibank, alerting me to make the minimum payment (that will hardly make a dent let alone a scratch in our ever-expanding balance – you gotta love 0% APR. Although - God forbid you make a late payment – a whole other subject entirely - I’ll save that for another blog.) on ONE of the credit cards.

The damage is yet to be discovered. Not only at the bank. I gave up on keeping track of WW points. I think I’ll pass on the weigh in this week.

So, it’s back to the grind, and back to reality. I guess in a way, it’s always a relief when Christmas is over. Plus, there’s always next year!

TOP TEN LIST

Ten tips to help you get over the “After-Christmas-Blues”:

10. Work on your New Year’s resolution list….if you wanna go that route.

9. Go to the gym and work off all the Christmas cookies, cupcakes, and pies. I know, but I promise, you’ll feel better!

8. O.K. then, forget you diet for ONE MORE DAY – and meet a friend for lunch.

7. Plan next years Christmas stuff based on this years’ successes and mishaps.

6. Go to Starbucks and order the Pumpkin Spice Latte one more time, before it’s too late (is it already discontinued?)

5. Plan fun stuff for year 2008!

4. Try ON and try OUT all your new stuff!

3. Get ready for New Years!

2. Go “After-Christmas-shopping”.

1. Clean the house 1st (I know – why? trust me on this)….turn on all the Christmas lights…light all the candles….grab yourself a cup of cocoa and get cozy…

It doesn’t have to be over
